2024/25 Program Information

This program is proudly supported by AusCycling. The HAS Mountain Bike programs provide recognition and motivation to identified emerging talented athletes in AusCycling age groups U15s, U17 & U19 Categories with a stated goal to achieve state team representation.

Athletes can specialise in two offered disciplines. Each work to slightly varied schedules with a specialist coach.

Gravity Enduro (GE)

Cross Country (XCO)

Please understand that our HAS programs require both a high level of fitness and skill. This Program will work on both of these facets with a good mix of skills training and fitness sessions. It is expected that applicants be willing to commit to all facets of the training to ensure we get the best possible results.

The following benefits will apply to those selected in the program:

  • Specialist Training Sessions to Further Develop Skills
  • Access to a Network of Specialised Coaches
  • Athlete Education in Topics such as Nutrition and Psychology
  • Strength and Conditioning Coaching and Program
  • Planning and support for targeted events
  • Athletes must be eligible in the following AusCycling Age groups: U15s, U17 & U19 age category in 2024 (Born in years 2005 – 2010 inclusive).
  • Reside within the Hunter Region
  • Attend School within the Hunter Region
  • Registered with a Local Club/Association and a current financial member of AusCycling

The following selection criteria may be taken into consideration during the selection process:

  • Performance and results at specific recent events
  • Physical attributes and capabilities
  • Potential to improve
  • Competitive ability
  • Individual application
  • Coachability and behaviour

  • How long you have been riding MTB/racing
  • Best 5 or more race results from Jan 2023/24
  • How many hours a week you currently train and what kind of training are you doing?
  • Current Coach and training plan outline
  • Goals for the Season and what races will you be racing
  • Do you plan to travel to the National Championships?

A full schedule will be provided to the selected athletes. A guide for each program is provided below and subject to change:

MTB Orientation: Saturday 4th May, 8am – 11am at Hunter Academy of Sport

GE Program Training:

  • Selected Thursday evening training sessions in Term 2 & Term 3 of 2024 at Glenrock (5 week blocks in each term).
  • 2 x Day sessions at Barrington to be confirmed once AusCycling events are confirmed and Squad is selected. These will be held on either a Saturday or Sunday
  • Strength & Conditioning 6 week block – Tuesday evenings in Term 2

XCO Program Training:

  • Selected Monday evening training sessions in Term 2 & Term 3 of 2024 at Glenrock
  • Support at suggested targeted events throughout Terms 2 & 3
  • Ongoing training program on Training Peaks (NB: athletes will be expected to sign up to Training Peaks)
  • Strength & Conditioning 6 week block – Tuesday evenings in Term 2
