The  Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) UAA program provides high performance coaching and training opportunities to up-skill athletes and assist them in progressing to higher representation within the sport of hockey. HAS and the Regional Academy of Sport (RAS) network in NSW has had a long standing partnership with Hockey NSW playing a vital role in the Hockey NSW pathway by identifying, monitoring and developing the skills of young hockey players. This program is proudly sponsored by Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA). 

 

The UAA HAS Hockey Program is a program endorsed by Hockey NSW to deliver a pathway program for U16s and U18s. The program includes athletes in the Hockey NSW Pathways & Performance Program and selected athletes through local trials.

The following benefits will apply to those selected in the program:

  • Prepare athletes for the upcoming Hockey season, including State and National tournaments.
  • A minimum of 30 hrs of On-Field Hockey Sessions
  • Access to recommended HAS providers such as Physiotherapy & Podiatry
  • FMS Testing and Review, following with face to face Strength and Conditioning sessions
  • 6-months of Strenght & Conditioning Program
  • Your Local Club Academy Games Tournament (Selected Athletes Only)
  • Access to a Network of Specialised Coaches
  • Athlete Education in Topics such as Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Motivation, Leadership and Load Management
  • HAS Merchandise

To be eligible for the 2026/27 HAS Hockey Program:

  • Athletes must be turning 15-18 years of age in 2027 (U16-U18 age groups)
  • Athletes must be residents of the Hunter Region and a current financial member of both their Local Association and Hockey NSW

Athletes will be selected into a program via two ways:

  • Invitation to athletes identified via the HNSW Talent Identification or Selection Panels
  • Nominating via the online form
