The 2025 Football Program has just been announced. In partnership with Northern Football NSW and Regional Academies of Sport (RAS), the Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) Football program includes athletes by invitation only.

Regional Academies of Sport (RAS), together with Northern Football NSW have developed a pre-elite junior program that is invitation only through the Football Talent Support Program. This program is across selected regions, with HAS providing localised support to identified athletes.

The RAS/HAS Football Program will provide access to Performance Support services to improve athlete development with a view to:

  • Identify talented athletes within the target age group, including those from under-represented groups;
  • Enhance opportunities for selection into state development squads and state teams/squads;
  • Reduce likelihood of injury, assessment of injury and support for return from injury
  • Increase the level of success of those athletes at competition and events;
  • Increase athlete exposure to performance support, personal development and education.

The RAS/HAS Football Program will support the selected athletes individually with the below benefits:

  • Specialised Strength and Conditioning (S&C) programming and testing
  • Regular face to face S&C Sessions
  • Access to all educational support including topics such as Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Injury prevention
  • Athlete uniform
  • Invitation to all key HAS events and opportunities

To be eligible for selection into the RAS/HAS Football Program athletes must be identified and invited by Northern Football NSW based on current performance or potential performance levels.

Regional athletes have been selected 14-16 years of age and connected to their closest Regional Academy (ie. HAS).

Athletes must be registered with NNSWF.

The RAS/HAS Football program is considered a recognised support program within the High Performance player pathway through Northern Football NSW and Football NSW.

The program will run over 20 weeks where each athlete will be supported “off-field” to assist on-field performance. HAS will work directly with the athlete cohort to help strengthen individual performance through areas such as Strength and Conditioning as well as other education components.
