It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our life-member, Saxon White (9 March 1934 – 7 October 2025) – a distinguished sportsman, academic and stalwart supporter of regional sport.

Saxon’s sporting credentials are outstanding: he earned seven Test caps for Australia as a Wallaby in 1956–58.  His earlier career included representation as a state player and selection to the Wallabies whilst still a university student.

Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) was initiated following a foundational meeting on 21 January 1987 and formally launched in 1988 to identify, educate and develop regional sporting talent. During those early years Saxon was a key driving force, generously lending his expertise, leadership and vision in guiding the Academy’s establishment and its commitment to young athletes and sporting pathways.

Saxon is survived by his beloved wife Julie, his son Matthew and his daughters Lisa and Jessica. HAS extends its deepest sympathies to the White family during this time of loss. Saxon’s contribution to HAS and regional sport will not be forgotten.
