The Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) Netball and Netball Umpires Squad are excited to announce the commencement of training for the highly anticipated 2024 season. In partnership with Greater Bank, HAS continues its dedication to fostering talent and promoting excellence in netball across the Hunter region and beyond.

Aspiring athletes and umpires from the Hunter region have come together to embark on a journey of skill refinement and teamwork in preparation for the upcoming season. The collaboration with Greater Bank underscores the commitment to nurturing local talent and providing avenues for growth and development in sports.

The tri-partisan collaboration between HAS, Central Coast Academy of Sport (CCAS), Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) and Greater Bank, highlights the collective effort to elevate netball at the grassroots level and beyond. Through structured training programs, mentorship opportunities and financial education, participants are equipped with the tools necessary to thrive both on and off the court.

The 2024 season holds promising opportunities for the squad as they set their sights on significant events, including the Netball NSW High-Performance Camp scheduled for March. This camp serves as a platform for players and officials to refine their techniques, enhance their understanding of the game, and connect with fellow enthusiasts from across the state.

Furthermore, the squad is eagerly preparing for the Your Local Club Academy Games, set to take place in April in Wagga Wagga. This prestigious event not only showcases the skills and determination of young athletes but also fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants from various regions.

The success of the Netball program shines through the inclusion of four former athletes in both the Under 17 and Under 19 Netball NSW state teams, showcasing its efficacy and impact. Current athlete Matilda Percival, alongside Acacia Elers and Ella Stacey were selected in the Under 17’s NSW State squad, as well as current GWS Giants Netball Academy and former HAS athlete Hope White selected in the Under 19’s squad.

Chief Distribution Officer Emma Brokate said that Greater Bank was proud to continue the Academy partnership, “The netball and netball umpires programs provide so much more than skills development,” Ms Brokate said.

“They also promote teamwork, leadership, and work ethic, helping these athletes grow into confident young adults. We can’t wait to see what they achieve this year!”

As the squad embarks on this journey, HAS, CCAS and WRAS expresses gratitude to Greater Bank for their support and commitment to nurturing sporting excellence in the community. Together, they remain steadfast in their mission to empower aspiring athletes and umpires to reach new heights of achievement in netball.
