This Thursday, June 26, the Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) will host the 2025 Indigenous Talent Identification Day at Maitland Basketball Stadium from 9am. This event is proudly supported by Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA) and Santos Hunter Gas Pipeline.
This important event brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across the Hunter region to showcase their athletic potential across a range of sports, including Netball, Basketball, Aussie Rules Football, Golf and Functional Movement Testing.
The Talent ID Day is a key initiative developed in partnership between HAS, UAA and Santos, aimed at uncovering and nurturing Indigenous sporting talent in regional communities. Standout participants will be offered full scholarships to join HAS sports programs, leading into a six-week training block beginning in Term 3, 2025.
Brett O’Farrell, CEO of the Regional Academies of Sport Ltd, the parent company of the HAS commented:
“This program is a testament to what’s possible when community, coaches and corporate partners come together. It’s about more than sport—it’s about creating real opportunities for young people in our region.”
“The Indigenous Talent ID initiative continues to grow, offering life-changing experiences and pathways for young athletes.”
Media are warmly invited to attend the 2025 Indigenous Talent Identification Day to witness firsthand the incredible potential of our region’s young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes. Interviews with participants, coaches and program leaders will be available on-site. Don’t miss this opportunity to cover a powerful story of talent, opportunity, and community impact in action.
