Coastal Fire Services Awards Scholarships to Rising Stars in Hunter and Central Coast Regions

Coastal Fire Services, in partnership with Grow a Star and the Regional Academies of Sport Ltd (RAS), is delighted to announce the recipients of the Coastal Fire Services Sporting Scholarships. These scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, have been awarded to ten outstanding young athletes from the Hunter and Central Coast regions, providing them with vital support to pursue their sporting aspirations. The scholarship winners are as follows:

Cameron Andrews – Hockey, Hunter Academy of Sport

Elijah Rea – Hockey, Central Coast Academy of Sport

Ellazae Elers – Netball, Hunter Academy of Sport

Harper McDermott – Basketball, Hunter Academy of Sport

Julian Glew – Sprint Kayak, Central Coast Academy of Sport

Lilly Bartley – Softball, Hunter Academy of Sport

Madeline Platt – Triathlon, Hunter Academy of Sport

Matilda Percival – Netball, Hunter Academy of Sport

Odin Fa’asolo – Basketball, Hunter Academy of Sport

Zachary Thomson – Athletics, Hunter Academy of Sport

The Coastal Fire Services Sporting Scholarships, made possible through a generous donation from Coastal Fire Services and facilitated by Grow a Star, aim to alleviate financial barriers faced by promising young athletes. This initiative underscores a commitment to fostering talent and providing opportunities for growth and development within the sporting community.

Bianca Smith, Marketing and Communications Manager for RAS, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “These scholarships represent more than just financial assistance; they embody a dedication to breaking down barriers and empowering the next generation of sporting stars. Through the Coastal Fire Services Sporting Scholarships, we aspire to equip young athletes in the Hunter and Central Coast regions with the necessary resources to transform their sporting dreams into reality.”

The Coastal Fire Services Sporting Scholarships cover various expenses associated with sporting endeavors, including training fees, equipment, uniforms, and travel expenses. By offering this support, Coastal Fire Services, Grow a Star, and RAS seek to enable young athletes to excel in their chosen sports and achieve their full potential.

Grow a Star is a youth mentoring and scholarship program run by Hunter-based community housing provider Home in Place to help remove financial barriers for young people pursuing their academic, sporting, or artistic dreams. Co-ordinator Shane Marshall said connecting the generosity of Coastal Fire Services with Regional Academies of Sport will help local athletes to grow to be sporting stars.
