HAS Celebrate Big Wins at 2021/22 Awards Presentation

Close to 100 athletes, parents, coaches, managers and VIP’s were in attendance at McDonald Jones Stadium for the annual 2021/22 Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) Awards Presentation on Thursday, October 13th. Bringing together guests across 17 of their 2021/22 programs, the night celebrated the incredible achievements of their athletes, aswell as recognizing the hard work of their coaches and managers.

Bringing together guests across 17 of their 2021/22 programs, the night celebrated the incredible achievements of their athletes, aswell as recognising the hard work of their coaches and managers.

 

The following athletes, coaches and manager were recognised at the presentation:

 

 Best and Fairest:  Miles Carr – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Talent ID; Hunter Rowntree - Athletics; Maddy Marsh and Will Ross – Aussie Rules U15; Isabella Sullivan and Rywin Nock – Aussie Rules U17; Jackson Frame – Baseball; Phoebe McGregor and Hayden Vardy – Basketball; Hannah Button, Joseph Thomas and Jackson McDougall – Beach Volleyball; Hayley Dell and Noah Mason – Cycling; Lachlan Standing and Amy Squires – Golf; Neve Elliot and Griffin Coleman – UAA Hockey; Hayley Andrews, Pippa McIntosh, Jackson Harvey, Ashton Bannister – Indoor Volleyball; Archie Gibson – Mountain Bike; Olivia Pirillo – Greater Bank Netball; Ellie Taylor – Greater Bank Netball Umpires; Bella Jones and Arthur Bell - Sailing; Porscha Jimmieson – Swimming; Jazmine O’Brien and Luke Hall – Triathlon.

 

Greater Bank Volunteer Coach of the Year: Ross Hayter (Cycling)

Greater Bank Volunteer Manager of the Year: Nikki Simpson (UAA Hockey)

Paul Trisley Contribution to Sport in the Hunter Region: Ben Brown (UAA Hockey)

 

Our major award recipients were as follows:

 

Outstanding Achievement Award: Jesse Southwell (Advanced S&C)

Jesse is a Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, joining the Australian Rugby 7’s at just 17 years old. She is the youngest ever debutant for the Newcastle Knights, playing a pivotal role in their Major Premiership in the 2022 season. She was also awarded the Dally M 2022 NRLW Rookie of the Year Award.

 

Outstanding Athlete in a Team Sport: Hope White (Netball)

Hope was selected in both the U17 State and National Netball teams at just 15 years of age. She played for Central Coast Hart in the NSW U23 Premier League team and was named the Regional Academies of Sport Academy Challenge Player of the Tournament.

 

Outstanding Athlete in an Individual Sport: Noah Mason (Cycling)

Noah has some massive results in the 2021/22 season, including being named the National and NSW State Track Champion, being the fastest qualifying U17 man in both. At Nationals he won Gold in Sprint, Keirin, Team Sprint and TT 500M. At State he won gold in TT 500m, Scratch, Keirin and Sprint. Noah also made the NSW State team for 2022.

 

Outstanding Athlete in an Individual Sport: Hayley Dell (Cycling)

Hayley was part of the Hunter U17 Women’s Track Team where she won Silver in the Team Sprint, Team Pursuit and Elimination Champion. She also recorded personal bests in the NSW State track Championship, NSW Track Championship and NSW Road Championship.

 

Athlete of the Year: Noah Mason (Cycling)
