Team HAS Celebrate Success at Academy Games

The Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) played host to the 2019 Your Local Club Academy Games over the weekend of Friday 12th April to Sunday 13th April. Over 1 100 athletes and their families travelled from 11 Regional Academies throughout NSW to compete in the tournament throughout the Hunter Region. HAS had major success over the weekend, with all of their squads showing a high level of talent and skill against strong opposition. See their results below:

The Hunter Academy of Sport played host to the 2019 Your Local Club Academy Games over the weekend of Friday 12th April to Sunday 13th April. Over 1 100 athletes and their families travelled from 11 Regional Academies throughout NSW to compete in the tournament throughout the Hunter Region. HAS had major success over the weekend, with all of their squads showing a high level of talent and skill against strong opposition. See their results below:

 

Netball

Both division 1 and 2 Greater Bank HAS netballers had a great weekend, playing hard and strong throughout the entirety of the competition. Both teams had many notable wins against their academy counterparts, with Jemma Lucas being named the MVP for Division 1 and Meg Southcombe for Division 2.

 

Golf 

The HAS golfers faced fierce competition over the weekend across Pacific Dunes and Belmont Golf Clubs. HAS golfer Jasmine Vesper placed 1st in the Girl’s Gross scoring, with fellow team mate Katlyn Van Zyl placing 1st in the Girls Nett score.

 

Hockey

Girls: HAS placed 5th overall with a very close games throughout the weekend. The HAS MVP was awarded to Emma Hayes.

Boys: HAS A faced a tough final against Western Region for the second year in a row, coming out with a 2-0 win to take home 1st place. Brad Fletcher was awarded MVP for the HAS A. HAS B faced tough competition, finishing in 7th place. Noah Dimmock was named as the MVP for HAS B

 

Basketball

Girls: A tough competition in the girl’s tournament saw the girls show exception skill and perseverance throughout the 3 days of competition – a great all round effort by the HAS athletes.

Boys:  The boys also faced tough competition, unfortunately being knocked out in the semi-finals in a strong game against winners Central Coast. The boys all played really well – and walked away from the competition with new skills, passion and appreciation for the game.

 

Softball

Girls: HAS faced tough competition over the weekend, and managed to walk away with 4th place. They all played extremely well, showed great sportsmanship and skill throughout the entirety of the tournament.

Boys: The HAS boys had a great weekend, finishing in 1st place in a tough game against South West Sydney.

 

Triathlon 

HAS had many notable places across the 2 days of racing with the following results: Hallie Boucher – 2nd place Junior B Girls; Emily Fortunaso-Klocker- 1st place Junior A Girls; Rowan Barnes – 2nd and Jett Campbell – 3rd in Junior B Boys and Monty Dixon – 3rd Junior A Boys.

 

AFL

Boys: The boys played an exhibition match against Central Coast, with a big win of 26-6. The boys ranged from 9-12 years old, and played a hard game against their Coastal counterparts.

Girls: The HAS girls played their first tournament together, working unified and to each other’s strengths across the weekend. They all showed exceptional skill and talent, with big games against tough counterparts from across the state. The girls finished in 7th place, with many of the athletes catching the eye of NSW State Selectors.

 

Tennis

The HAS Tennis squad had their first tournament as a team at the Games with the squad performed brilliantly with great results and fighting spirit in all matches won, or lost. The HAS squad finished with the following results: Isaac Elson- 2nd in U12 Singles and U12 Doubles; Lleyton Richards- 1st in U16 Singles and Under16 Doubles; Frederic Heslin- 2nd in U16 Singles and Under16 Doubles; Tylah Nicholls- 1st in U12 Singles and U12 Doubles.
