The Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) harness racing education program kicked off last weekend with two days of seminars taking place at the HAS gym and Newcastle harness racing track.

More than 20 athletes aged between 10-18 years old completed the program with some travelling from interstate to attend.

The athletes were provided with specialised education, including topics such as animal welfare, nutrition, sports psychology, drugs in sport and many more.

The group received professional media training from NBN News’ Kate Habberfield and were visited by Central Coast Mariners Football Club communications manager Tyson Scott, who spoke about social media use.

This program was made possible by the strengthened relationship between the Hunter Academy of Sport, Harness Racing NSW and NSW Mini Trots Association.

Meanwhile, the AFL NSW/ACT development and talent squads were visited by six Sydney Swans players as part of the AFL community camp coaching clinics.

The visit included ball skills, agility and technique, as well as a Q and A session, and was a great chance for HAS athletes to receive specialised coaching.
