HAS Celebrate Athletes with Major Award Announcement

The 2020/21 Annual Awards Day was set to run over 2 events, the first an informal BBQ and 2nd a formal celebration to name our major award winners. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the formal event was unable to be held on August 5th, meaning that the named athletes were recognised in an online capacity.

The 2020/21 Annual Awards Day was set to run over 2 events, 1 an informal bbq and the 2nd a formal celebration to name our major award winners. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the formal event was unable to be held on August 5th, meaning that the named athletes were recognised in an online capacity.

 

The informal celebration was held on May 23rd at the University of Newcastle, and consisted of a ‘Mini Olympics’ style competition, hosted by Teams Challenge Australia, which put close to 50 athletes through their paces in leadership and team bonding skills and exercises. The following athletes were recognised on the day:

Aussie Rules Development: Makaylie Daymond, Owen Trickey; Aussie Rules Under 13: Molly Thomas, Noah Lorenz; Aussie Rules Under 15: Isabella Sullivan, Alex Stafa; Aussie Rules Under 17: Hayley Hawkins, Sebastian Thomas; Basketball: Indiana Baldwin, Xavier Wills; Baseball: Tylor Dodd; Cycling: Hayley Dell, Noah Mason; Golf: Amy Squires, Lachlan Standing; UAA Hockey: Flynn Thompson, Ellie Baldwin; Lawn Bowls: Brendan Stokes; Greater Bank Netball Talent: Aela Streatfield; Greater Bank Netball Development: Matilda Lidbury; Greater Bank Netball Umpires: Kimberley Clement; Softball: Kirra McIntosh, Colin Metcalfe; Triathlon: Hallie Boucher, Rohan Barnes.

 

With the formal celebration unable to be held in person, HAS announced the Major Award winners with a social media campaign on the evening of August 5th, celebrating the following:

 

Greater Bank Volunteer Manager of the Year: Kiona Sunerton (Netball); Greater Bank Volunteer Coach of the Year: Cal Wade (Basketball); Most Outstanding Female in a Team Sport: Aela Streatfield (Netball); Most Outstanding Male in a Team Sport: Tylor Dodd (Baseball); Most Outstanding Female in an Individual Sport: Hayley Dell (Cycling); Most Outstanding Male in an Individual Sport: Brendan Stokes (Lawn Bowls).

 

The 2020/21 Athlete of the Year was Tylor Dodd (Baseball). Tylor is a member of the White Sox Baseball Club in the Newcastle Association. He has been selected in the Country NSW U/16's and U/18's sides for the Australian National Championships in 2021 and the NSW Showcase Series. Tylor is currently getting ready to leave at the end of August/early September for the USA where he has been offered a scholarship to play Baseball at Thomas College in Maine.
