Hockey Teams Prepare in Inter-Academy Camp with Northern Inland

The Hunter Academy of Sport’s 2017/2018 Hockey Program has finished preparation for the upcoming Academy Games with an inter-academy camp held at Newcastle Hockey Centre over the weekend.

The Hunter Academy of Sport’s 2017/2018 Hockey Program has finished preparation for the upcoming Academy Games with an inter-academy camp held at Newcastle Hockey Centre over the weekend.

Thirty-two athletes visited from the Northern Inland Academy of Sport, travelling from NSW towns such as Tamworth, Coonabarabran and Quirindi to take part.

The athletes took to the field for two days of intense drills, education and strategy, hosted by the Hunter Academy of Sport.

The two Academies were lucky enough to be visited by ex-Kookaburra Ben Craig and ex-Hockeyroo Casey Sablowski throughout the training, who shared their experiences of representing Australia and being an elite athlete, whilst also running drills with the athletes and passing on their extensive knowledge of the game. 

A great weekend had by all with many new skills learned in the lead up the the 2018 Your Local Club Academy Games.

In just four weeks, the Hunter region will be hosting the Your Local Club Academy Games over the weekend of the April 27-29. The Games will showcase the states best emerging athletes across eight sports including basketball, golf, hockey, netball, tennis, softball, AFL and surfing. 

Your Local Club have been the principle partner for the Academy Games since its inception and the Regional Academies of Sport are proud to be associated with such a supportive and progressive organisation.
